Once the OCR is done, you can select text from your scan and copy it, then paste it into an e-mail or another document. It takes a lot of computational effort to recognize text like our human brains do … and it’s not always perfect. OCR is no easy task for a computer … or a phone or tablet. This is a brand new feature in Scanner Pro 7 and I’m pleased with it’s performance. That’s the job of Optical Character Recognition, or OCR. Human eyeballs can read text in a picture, but iPhone or iPad cannot … unless you have it attempt to “recognize” each text character. If you’re scanning a magazine or book, Scanner Pro now has a handy “Distortion Correction” that attempts to flatten out the page from the spine. You can switch back & forth to find the best setting. The document can be simple black & white text, or a “color” photo of the document. You can also manually tap the button to take a picture/scan, and just keep snapping for multiple pages. I like to scan magazine articles in a doctor’s waiting room or business cards from a networking event.Īs soon as you launch Scanner Pro you can set it to automatically “scan” a document once it recognizes the four squares of a document. You’re meeting with a client at their office – instead of making them run down the hall to make a copy of a document for you just “scan” a copy. You’re in court and opposing counsel hands you a document but conveniently forgot to make a copy for you, set it on the table and “scan” a copy for yourself. You’re traveling and get a paper receipt – scan it and e-mail to your office manager or assistant. Having a scanner app on your iPhone or iPad is so extremely handy. The most recent iPhones & iPads work best because they have better cameras. That’s why it’s important to have a good camera – the better the camera, the better the picture, the better the scan. The iPhone doesn’t know if it’s taking a picture of a document or a polar bear … the difference is what you do with the picture after the fact such as converting it to a PDF file. We call this a “scanning app” but really it’s just a fancy app for taking pictures with some added features for working with “documents.” Scanner Pro 7 is a universal app available for both the iPhone and iPad at the low price $3.99 and requires iOS 9.0 and higher. By tapping on the icon, the app will separate all readable text from the image and allow the user to select the part that needs to be shared. The images with recognisable text in them will be marked with the same viewfinder icon with three lines in the camera application. If a user wants to copy some text from a picture clicked before or downloaded from the internet, that can be done too. Text with emails, dates or phones numbers can be copied with a long-press.Now, the user can select, copy, look up the selected text, translate and share recognized text. When the user points at an image with text, a yellow viewfinder surrounds the text on the screen when the camera recognizes the presence of text in seen. While pointing at a scene with text in it, locate the new Live Text button that appears at the bottom right corner of the screen in the form of three horizontal lines.Make sure that the device is running iOS 15.Using the iPhone Live Text OCR, iPhones owners can scan through screenshots, images in the Apple Photos app or directly through the camera. The feature is based on optical character recognition (OCR), a technology that can recognize text or characters in an image and extract them. In other words, users do not require a third-party application for it. While Apple's rival Alphabet offers similar functionality through Google Lens, Apple has integrated the feature deep into iOS 15. Being one of the handiest features in iOS 15, the live text will help users to extract numbers instantly from documents, save addresses, phone numbers and much more. The handy iPhone Live Text OCR allows users to quickly select and copy, paste or lookup text from within the Camera and Photos app. Along with iOS 15, a new feature called Live Text is now available on eligible Apple devices.
